The course is divided into three terms of various lengths. During the first two trimesters, the 38-hour weeks consist of lectures, discussions, quizzes, and approximately 25 hours of microscopy. At the end of this time period, students must complete a series of comprehensive examinations aimed at testing the student's knowledge of cytopathology.

The third trimester is devoted to supervised microscopy of clinical specimens, during which the student further develops and improves upon their microscopic skills and diagnostic acumen. At this time, students also rotate through various clinical settings associated with the practice of clinical cytology, providing students with practical experience in the areas of advanced laboratory procedures, quality assurance and cytogenetics.
