Students are admitted to the School of Cytotechnology under one of two arrangements. 


3+1 Bachelors Program Requirements

Prospective students may be accepted into the school through a 3+1 program after completing three years of undergraduate course work with an affiliated college or university.

This course work must include a minimum of:

  •  
    • 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) of biological sciences
    • 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours) in chemistry and
    • 3 semester hours of math (4 quarter hours).

Favorable consideration will be given to applicants with an above-average academic record and recommendation.

Students enrolled in the 3+1 program through an affiliated college or university enroll at UW-Madison as special students.  Tuition requirements may differ depending on the academic affiliation.  Contact the financial aid office at your institution before contacting the program coordinator.  Scholarships may be available to off-set tuition fees and will vary by academic affiliation agreements.


4 + 1 Certificate Program Requirements

Students who have completed a baccalaureate degree may be accepted into the cytology program. Post Baccalaureate students must have completed a minimum of:

  •  
    • 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) of biological sciences
    • 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours) in chemistry and
    • 3 semester hours of math (4 quarter hours).
 

A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for admission to the program.

Baccalaureate-degreed students will be enrolled as special students at UW-Madison to receive a certificate in cytotechnology at the end of the program. Tuition is roughly $10,000 for residents and $30,000 for non-residents following UW-Madison tuition guidelines.  At this time, tuition includes all program required books and five-day hands-on molecular laboratory course.  Students are eligible to receive federal financial aid following directions from UW-Madison.  Scholarships may be available to assist in off-setting tuition fees.


Health/Insurance Requirements

Students of the School of Cytotechnology must fulfill certain health/insurance requirements prior to the beginning of the school year. Failure to do so will result in a withdrawl from the program.

  • All students must show evidence of health insurance prior to beginning the course.  Students that do not have health insurance will be mandated to obtain the University Health Services insurance.
  • All students must show proof of a current TB skin test  prior to the beginning of the clinical rotation program.
  • All students must show proof of up-to-date immunization records before beginning an clinical rotation.   Students must have obtain the minimum of two Hepatitis B shot before clinical rotations can begin.

If for any reason a student wishes to opt out of the Hepatitis B and immunization shots a waiver form must be signed absolving the School of Cytotechnology and any of it's affiliates from any responsibility relating to contracting Hepatitis B.

  • A current eye examination along with a color vision test must be submitted prior to entry.
