Next-Generation Sequencing 101

Description of Session:

This webinar will present an introduction to next-generation sequencing (NGS), including the theory of NGS, wet laboratory steps, and bioinformatics. Short- and long-read sequencing platforms will be introduced, and applications of NGS for clinical and public health microbiology will be discussed, including: deep sequencing of 16S amplicons to delineate mixed infections, phylogenetic approaches for foodborne outbreak identification, and identification of antimicrobial resistance genes.

 

A certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit.
