March 23, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Preparing and Reading Gram Stains: I’m Not Afraid

Presenters:

  • Erin Bowles, BS, MT(ASCP), is the Clinical Laboratory Network Coordinator in the Communicable Disease Division at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene
  • Erik Munson, PhD, D(ABMM), is an Assistant Professor at Marquette University in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science and a member of the Wisconsin Clinical Laboratory Network Laboratory Technical Advisory Group

Description of Session:

Preparing, reading, and reporting a Gram stain can be a dreaded duty that some Medical Laboratory Scientists, who perform Gram stains infrequently, will try to avoid. If Gram stains are a challenge for you, this presentation is for you. Let the speakers help you to stop fearing Gram stains, as they review the process for making, reading and reporting quality Gram stains in a manner that will provide beneficial information to aid the physician in determining patient care. This session is geared to the non-microbiologist who prepares and reads Gram stains only occasionally, or the new inexperienced microbiologist.

A certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit.

This program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program.

As part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar.
