A privately-held and family-owned rotogravure and offset printing business that makes labels primarily for the beverage industry, Inland is only Wisconsin's fifth-ever SHARP honoree. Inland also produces and distributes marketing materials and displays for clients such as Miller, Molson, Budweiser, Aztec Teas and a variety of bottled water companies. "It gives me great pleasure to help honor Inland Label and Marketing Services, LLC, with the SHARP award," WSLH Director Ronald H. Laessig, Ph.D. said. "This Wisconsin company has met and exceeded OSHA standards to create a safe and healthy environment for all of its employees. As one of just five SHARP award honorees in our state, Inland has joined an elite list of companies that make safety and health a top priority." John Chapin, Director of the WSLH's Public Health Informatics and Surveillance Division, joined Consultation Program Project Manager Terry Moen and Environmental Health Specialist Kim Dietz, to attend an award ceremony at Inland's facility on June 15. The WSLH staff members joined regional OSHA professionals to present Inland President and CEO Mark Glendenning and company employees with a plaque and banner commemorating the SHARP award at a plant-wide luncheon. Additionally, Inland also received its third-straight Miller Brewing Partners In Excellence Award during the afternoon ceremony. Sporting a bright blue Inland t-shirt like his coworkers, Glendenning , a 1985 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Industrial Engineering, credited his fellow Inland employees for helping their company achieve the national award for all three years eligible. Inland met SHARP requirements by requesting a full-service visit from both the Wisconsin Safety and Health Consultation Programs and correcting all identified hazards to safety and health. It also implemented and maintains an active safety and health management system that includes the broad categories of management commitment, employee involvement, hazard identification and control, and training and evaluation. The voluntary OSHA Consultation Program is jointly administered by the Wisconsin Safety Consultation (WiSCon) Program at the Department of Commerce and the Wisconsin Health Consultation Program at the WSLH. Part of the OSHA Consultation Program, SHARP honors small and medium employers that operate top safety and health management systems, while also maintaining an injury and illness rate below the national average for their industry. As part of the OSHA Consultation Program, the staff of the Wisconsin Health Consultation Program provides free assistance to employers to establish and maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Consultants conduct on-site monitoring for chemical, biological, radiological, and physical hazards; perform ergonomic evaluation; assess the employer's safety and health programs; and present occupational health-related training.
