Kieffer and Co. Earns SHARP Award From OSHA, WSLH

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Wisconsin OSHA Consultation Program (WisCon) at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) recently helped honor Kieffer and Co., Inc., of Sheboygan, Wis., for achieving the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Representing the WSLH, WisCon Program Manager Terry Moen and Environmental Health Specialist Kim Dietz both attended the award ceremony on August 29 celebrating the Sheboygan sign manufacturer’s achievement.

Moen and Dietz joined OSHA Area Director Mel Lischefski, as well as Wisconsin State Representative Terry Van Akkeren (26th Assembly District), Melissa Kok on behalf of U.S. Congressman Tom Petri (6th District), Mayor Juan Perez of Sheboygan, and several other local community leaders, to present Kieffer CEO Steve Kieffer and his wife, Secretary and Treasurer Lynn Kieffer, President Matt Mele and Vice President of Manufacturing Jeff Fuhrmann and Kieffer’s employees a plaque and banner commemorating the SHARP award at the company’s honor luncheon.

Kieffer’s SHARP honor is one of only 15 in Wisconsin and less than 1,000 nationwide.

The privately-held company lead by Steve and Lynn, Kieffer & Co., Inc., was started by Steve’s parents Don and Ruth Kieffer in 1959. This second-generation company consults, designs and manufactures outdoor signs that help promote the businesses of a wide variety of customers, both here in Wisconsin and across the nation. To achieve this SHARP honor, Kieffer has demonstrated a commitment to the health and safety of their employees and met or exceeded all of the requirements for participation in this voluntary program.

Part of WisCon, SHARP honors small and medium employers that operate top safety and health management systems, while also maintaining an injury and illness rate below the national average for their industry. The voluntary WisCon program provides free assistance to employers to establish and maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Consultants conduct on-site monitoring for chemical, biological, radiological, and physical hazards; perform ergonomic evaluation; assess the employer's safety and health programs; and present occupational health-related training.
