Dear Mr. Arps,

I am writing to acknowledge the Wisconsin Safety Consultation Program. We at Mapleton have been utilizing this program or its predecessor since about 1993 to assist us in establishing and maintaining our safety programs and philosophies. our most recent consultation was conducted in December 2000 and January 2001 by Mr. Michael Dobbins out of the Lac Crosse office.

On 1 May 2001, a compliance officer from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), presented herself to conduct a wall-to-wall inspection of our facility and operation under the SST program. Having utilized the consultation program, I felt fairly confident that we would not do too badly in an OSHA inspection. However, I must admit I was still apprehensive and anticipated the inspection would result in at least minimal monetary penalties. I was pleasantly surprised at the closing conference to find that the compliance officer only recorded three other-than-serious violations and there would be no monetary penalty.

The result of this inspection serves as a testament to our dedication to provide a safe working environment for our employees. Of note here is the significant role played by the Wisconsin Safety Consultation Program in helping us achieve that goal. I realize that this job is not over, but we can go forward feeling a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that we are moving in the right direction. We adaptively promote your program to other employers in the community as well as to my contacts through the Chippewa Valley Society for Human Resource Management. You provide an invaluable service for which I am grateful.

Sincerely,
