Presentation on Water Microbiology Research for WSLH Board (3/27/08)

Date: 03/27/2008

Time:

Presentors:

  • Sharon C. Long, Ph.D., Director of Environmental Microbiology, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene

Description:

Dr. Long is currently working on a research project with the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District to confirm that their biosolids process meets Class A requirements. This work consists of information gathering, sampling and experimental tasks to provide the scientific basis to judge Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District's process as required in part to meet Class A. This work investigates the occurrence and destruction of fecal coliforms, E. coli, Salmonella, enteric viruses, helminth ova and the surrogates coliphages, and aerobic and anaerobic spores thorough the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District's biosolids production process. This project fits within one of Dr. Long's research program goals of applying indicator organism and pathogen measurement methodologies to understand engineered systems.
