mVOC Analysis WOHL has developed a method to analyze for MVOCs, the musty smelling volatile organic compounds that molds produce as they grow. Molds give off many organic compounds, some of which are specific enough to mold growth to be used as indicators of the possible presence of mold. This method is used in cases where visible mold growth is not present and there is some kind of odor. A positive result indicates that there may be an unseen mold problem. Further investigation is then warranted. Collection is on a proprietary thermal desorption
tube with analysis by GC-MS. This tube can collect many other volatile
compounds, so other sources of VOCs should be eliminated as much
as possible. WOHL will do library matches on the other large peaks
that are present but neither the instrument nor the media is optimized
for these compounds. If you suspect that other VOCs may be present,
WOHL does offer a thermal desorption VOC scan, which utilizes a
different media and column. For more information about either of
these assays contact the lab. |
