SUMMARY:WCLN Conference - Challenges in Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing - 2017
DESCRIPTION:Challenges in Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing – 2017\nPresenter: \n\nEric Beck\, Ph.D.\, D(ABMM)\, Technical Director of Microbiology\, ACL Laboratories\nTom Dilworth\, Pharm.D.\, Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor\, Aurora Healthcare\nTim Monson\, M.S.\,  Supervisor\, Communicable Diseases Division\, WSLH\nErik Munson\, Ph.D.\, D(ABMM)\, Assistant Professor\, College of Health Sciences\, Marquette University\nRay Podzorski\, Ph.D.\, D(ABMM)\, Microbiology Director\, St. Mary’s Hospital\nKaren Siebers\, B.S. MT(ASCP)\, Medical Technologist\, Microbiology\, ThedaCare Laboratories\nFrances Spray-Larson\, Ph.D.\, Lead Microbiologist\, Fort HealthCare\n\n\nDescription of Session: \nThe conference will focus on the challenges that laboratories face in performing quality antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and will provide guidance in meeting those challenges.  The conference will open with updates on the newly developed Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (ARLN)\, followed by tips for using the CLSI M100 and M45 documents. Other topics include the WI Surveillance Project\, AST for yeast and molds\, the pharmacokinetics\, pharmacodynamics and spectrum of activity of antifungals\, and cross-table/combination antibiograms. Audience participation will be encouraged when panelists discuss bug-drug susceptibility requests where there are no approved methods or established breakpoints. We will round out the day by sharing tips and discussing how we train new employees and students to perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 6.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the conference. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this conference is May 19\, 2017. \nRegistration:\n Register Now!\nMaterials:\nTo be provided…

SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar – The Mosquitoes We Live With and the Diseases They Harbor (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:The Mosquitoes We Live With and the Diseases They Harbor (Part 1)\nPresenter: \n\nLyric C. Bartholomay\, Ph.D.\, Director of Upper Midwestern Regional Center of Excellence for Vector-Borne Disease\, Department of Pathobiological Sciences\, School of Veterinary Medicine\, University of Wisconsin – Madison\, Madison\, WI\n\nDescription of Session: \nThere are many species of mosquito that live in the Upper Midwest\, but very few of them are those that we encounter in our daily lives during the summer months when mosquitoes thrive.  I’ll share some fundamental hallmarks of mosquito identification that are useful for individuals and families\, but also in a laboratory diagnostics context.  We will discuss the mosquitoes that are pests as compared to mosquitoes that transmit pathogens\, and talk about what makes a mosquito a vector for pathogens like West Nile and LaCrosse viruses. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit.
