DESCRIPTION:28th Annual Wisconsin Virology Conference\nPresenters: \n\nTony Goldberg\, DVM\, PhD\, Professor\, Dept. of Pathobiological Sciences\, UW-Madison\nRebecca Osborn\, MPH\, Epidemiologist\, WI Division of Public Health\nKelsey Florek\, MPH\, PhD\, Research Supervisor\, WI State Laboratory of Hygiene\nSamantha Scott\, MS\, Microbiologist\, WI State Laboratory of Hygiene\nPete Shult\, PhD.\, Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, WI State Lab of Hygiene\nJon Temte\, MD\, PhD\, Physician\, Dept. of Family Medicine\, UW-Madison\nMary Wedig\, BS\, Electronic Lab Reporting Coordinator\, WI State Laboratory of Hygiene\n\nDescription of Session: \nThis one day conference will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about current trends in clinical and public health virology.  Topics which will be discussed include a global perspective of emerging viruses\, arbovirus epidemiology\, etiologies of non-mumps parotitis\, whole genome sequencing in the microbiology lab\, the 100 year anniversary of the 1918 influenza pandemic and school-based respiratory virus and absenteeism surveillance. The conference will provide attendees an opportunity to learn about viruses of clinical and public health importance and to network with other clinical virologists and microbiologists in Wisconsin. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 6.5 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. DESCRIPTION:Gram Stain Fundamentals – 2018\n\nPresenter: \n\nErin Bowles\, BS\, MT(ASCP)\, Clinical Laboratory Network Coordinator and State Training Coordinator\, Communicable Disease Division \, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\n\nDescription of Session: \nThis “hands-on” wet laboratory workshop for Wisconsin clinical laboratory professionals will review fundamental Gram stain principles.  The workshop will provide training in staining\, reading\, and reporting gram stains on clinical specimens.  The speaker will also discuss how to assess and assure the quality of the Gram stain as well as how to troubleshoot problems.  Attendees will have the opportunity to practice their staining skills on prepared slides of patient specimens\, positive blood culture bottles\, and organism isolates. \n  \nP.A.C.E.
