SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar – Candida auris Emergence and Surveillance
DESCRIPTION:Candida auris Emergence and Surveillance\nPresenters: \n\nAlana Sterkel\, PhD\, SM(ASCP)\, Assistant Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\nSnigdha Vallabhaneni\, MD\, MPH\, Medical Epidemiologist\, Mycotic Diseases Branch\, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\n\nDescription of Session: \nThis one-hour presentation by the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) offers clinical and public health laboratorians an opportunity to learn more about Candida auris. This is part of a webinar series through the Wisconsin clinical laboratory network (WCLN). C. auris is emerging as a significant public health threat with high mortality and few antibiotic solutions. Challenges in diagnostics and disinfection will be addressed. The WSLH has recently brought on multiple C. auris tests to aid in surveillance. We are asking for clinical lab participation through submission of isolates. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is September 18th\, 2019.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Candida auris Emergence and Surveillance – Presentation\n Candida auris Emergence and Surveillance – Handouts\nWCLN Webinar – Candida auris Emergence and Surveillance

SUMMARY:WCLN 2018 Regional Meetings (9/25)
DESCRIPTION:Presenters:\n\nAllen Bateman\, Ph.D.\, MPH\, D(ABMM)\, Assistant Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\nErin Bowles\, B.S.\, MT(ASCP)\, Laboratory Network Coordinator & Biosafety Officer\, Communicable Disease Division\, WSLH\nRichard Dern\, M.S.\, RM(AMM)\, M(ASCP)\, Biosafety Officer\, Communicable Disease Division\, WSLH\nPeter Shult\, Ph.D.\, Deputy Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, WSLH\nAlana Sterkel\, Ph.D.\, SM(ASCP)CM\,Assistant Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\nAnn Valley\, B.S.\, ARLN Coordinator\nDavid Warshauer. Ph.D.\, Virology Surveillance and Team Leader\n\nDescription:\nThis one-day meeting presented by the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) offers clinical and public health laboratorians\, infection preventionists\, and local public health staff the chance to strengthen their relationships through networking and discussions of relevant laboratory issues. \nThis year’s meeting concludes our biosafety grant funding and it is now time to determine whether or not we’ve been successful in improving the culture of laboratory biosafety in WI. We will share the results of the risk assessment tools that were completed and returned to us. We will also discuss the importance of continual emergency preparedness and raise the question “What is the minimal level of preparedness that a laboratory is expected to maintain?” Updates to the Reportable Conditions List\, the ARLN\, and WSLH Surveillance are also on the agenda. We will round out the day with everyone’s favorite topic “Case Studies”. \nWe have structured the day so that our guests from infection prevention and local public health may choose to leave after lunch\, when the presentations become more focused on laboratory issues. \n  \nProgram Time Table\nBegin time: 8:20 a.m. End time: 3:30 p.m. Break(s): 10:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Lunch: 12:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. \n \nMaterials\n\n WCLN 2018 Regional Meeting Brochure
