SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar - Gender and Anatomy in STD Testing
DESCRIPTION:Gender and Anatomy in STD Testing\nPresenter: \n\nAlana Sterkel\, Ph.D.\, D(ABMM)\, SM(ASCP)CM\, is the Associate Director of the Communicable Disease Division of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\n\nDescription of Session: \nThe landscape of gender identity is a fluid and evolving cultural phenomenon. Strict gender norms from the past no longer apply today. The increasing use of non-traditional gender identities impacts our ability to provide equitable medical services. Many diagnostic tests and electronic medical record systems require specific gender information\, particularly when it comes to STD testing. In this webinar we will discuss the regulatory limitations gender language imposes and some alternate approaches that can help to address these issues. We will also cover the impacts gender reassignment surgery has on the microbiome\, genital health risks\, and diagnostic testing. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is sponsored by the WSLH\, which is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will search for the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene programs under the “Other P.A.C.E. Programs” tab on the ASCLS CE Organizer web site. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is February 15th\, 2024.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Gender and Anatomy in STD Testing – Presentation\nWCLN Webinar – Gender and Anatomy in STD Testing
