SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar – The Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network
DESCRIPTION:The Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network\nPresenters: \n\nTimothy Monson\, M.S.\, Supervisor\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\nDavid Warshauer\, Ph.D.\, D(ABMM)\, CDD Deputy Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\n\nDescription of Session: \nThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently acts as the only sentinel surveillance program for the detection of unusual antibiotic resistance in the United States. The detection\, monitoring and reporting of unusual resistance varies greatly among all states\, relying almost exclusively upon informed clinicians and laboratorians to recognize and report it. With the creation of a national Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (ARLN) to improve overall antibiotic resistance surveillance in the U.S.\, regional laboratories have been established to provide support to clinical\, local and state public health laboratories. The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) has been chosen as a regional ARLN laboratory for the Midwest region. This session will describe the ARLN and what roles the WSLH\, clinical\, local\, and state public health labs will play in this national network. Additionally\, we will discuss the ARLN resources that are being developed for use in Wisconsin and across the U.S. Finally\, we will share some strategies and recommendations for addressing the effects of culture independent diagnostic testing (CIDT) on antibiotic resistance detection and surveillance. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is December 7\, 2017.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Evaluation Form\n The Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network – Presentation\n The Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network – Handouts
