SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar – Next-Generation Sequencing 101
DESCRIPTION:Next-Generation Sequencing 101\nPresenters: \n\nAllen Bateman\, PhD\, MPH\, D(ABMM)\, Assistant Director\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\nKelsey Florek\, PhD\, MPH\, ARLN Fellow\, Communicable Disease Division\, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene\n\nDescription of Session: \nThis webinar will present an introduction to next-generation sequencing (NGS)\, including the theory of NGS\, wet laboratory steps\, and bioinformatics. Short- and long-read sequencing platforms will be introduced\, and applications of NGS for clinical and public health microbiology will be discussed\, including: deep sequencing of 16S amplicons to delineate mixed infections\, phylogenetic approaches for foodborne outbreak identification\, and identification of antimicrobial resistance genes. \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is May 16th\, 2019.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Evaluation Form\n Next-Generation Sequencing 101 – Presentation\n Next-Generation Sequencing 101 – Handouts\nWCLN Webinar – Next-Generation Sequencing 101
