SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar - Microbial Taxonomy Updates: What Are They and Why Should We Care?
DESCRIPTION:Microbial Taxonomy Updates:  What Are They and Why Should We Care?\nPresenter: \n\nErik Munson\, PhD\, D(ABMM)\, is an Assistant Professor at Marquette University in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science and a member of the Wisconsin Clinical Laboratory Network Laboratory Technical Advisory Group\n\nDescription of Session: \nTechnologic advancements in fields such as molecular genetics and microbiome assessment have resulted in a veritable explosion of new microbial genus/species designations.  Acknowledgment of designations involving clinically-significant bacterial species would benefit clinical microbiologists in the context of emerging pathogens\, performance of accurate organism identification\, and performance of appropriate antimicrobial susceptibility testing.  This session attempts to crystallize the origin of taxonomy changes and the potential impact on routine clinical microbiology practice. \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is January 20th\, 2022.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Microbial Taxonomy Updates:  What Are They and Why Should We Care? – Handouts\nWCLN Webinar – Microbial Taxonomy Updates: What Are They and Why Should We Care?
