SUMMARY:WCLN Webinar - Prion Unveiled: Understanding Pathogenesis and Ensuring Biosafety
DESCRIPTION:Prion Unveiled: Understanding Pathogenesis and Ensuring Biosafety\n  \nPresenter: \n\nDr. Alana Sterkel\, Earned her bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Colorado. Then her PhD in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She completed a Clinical Microbiology Fellowship from UW Hospital and Clinics and serves as the Assistant Director of the Communicable Disease Division for the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.\n\nDescription of Session: \nJoin us for an insightful webinar tailored for clinical microbiologists\, focusing on the fascinating and complex world of prions. This session will delve into the unique characteristics of prions\, their role in neurodegenerative diseases\, and the latest diagnostic techniques. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of prion pathogenesis\, transmission\, and the challenges they pose in clinical settings. We will also cover essential biosafety responses\, providing practical guidance on handling prions safely in the laboratory environment. Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your expertise in this critical area of microbiology! \n  \nA certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit. \nThis program is sponsored by the WSLH\, which is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program. \nAs part of the new P.A.C.E. continuing education process\, please go to the ASCLS CE Organizer web site to print your P.A.C.E. certificates. You will search for the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene programs under the “Other P.A.C.E. Programs” tab on the ASCLS CE Organizer web site. You will be asked for a code number to print the certificate. We will provide you this number during the webinar. \nPlease note that the deadline for receiving P.A.C.E. education credit for this webinar is March 12th\, 2026.\n \nMaterials:\n\n Prion Unveiled: Understanding Pathogenesis and Ensuring Biosafety – Presentation\nWCLN Webinar – Prion Unveiled: Understanding Pathogenesis and Ensuring Biosafety
