The basics of C. difficile and C. difficile infection will be discussed followed by an introduction to the test systems that are currently available for C. difficile toxin testing. Various C. difficile toxin testing algorithms that have been proposed will be presented and their strengths and weaknesses will be discussed as well as what types of specimens are acceptable for C. difficile toxin testing.
