WCLN Webinar – The Amazing Race to Beat Zika Virus
March 16, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Amazing Race to Beat Zika Virus
Presenters:
- David Warshauer, Ph.D., D(ABMM), CDD Deputy Director, Communicable Disease Division, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene
Description of Session:
Zika virus, once thought to be a relatively harmless virus, has raced to the top of everyone’s list of emerging pathogens. Zika’s rapid spread throughout Central and South America as well as many other tropical vacation destinations and its possible link to microcephaly, in infants whose mothers are infected while pregnant, and also to Guillain Barre are causing great concern for public health. How do we beat Zika in its race upward to North America and prevent it from establishing itself in the United States? The speaker will discuss these issues as well as the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, patient management and laboratory diagnostics that are available to aid in the diagnosis of Zika virus infection.
A certificate of participation will be granted to each participant based on 1.0 contact hours of instruction toward credit.
This program is co-sponsored by ASCLS-WI which is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. program.
