Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene
Cytology Education and Training Program

The Cytotechnology Program at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) has trained cytotechnologists (currently Cytologists) since 1957, making it one of the oldest programs of its kind in the U.S.
For decades, the program operated in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, offering students hands-on training in a public health laboratory environment with exposure to a wide variety of cases.

In 2024, the program transitioned to a hybrid model in collaboration with the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). Students now complete online coursework through ACPHS while performing practical training on-site at WSLH. The lab also continues to offer retraining opportunities for certified cytotechnologists/cytologists returning to practice.
